Western medicine has been under attack from the mainstream for some time, and a new report has revealed that a large percentage of doctors are not trained in western medicine.
The study from the University of Maryland Medical Center, the University College London and the University Hospital of Bristol was commissioned by the American Medical Association (AMA) to provide the AMA with information about the “disappearing science” of western medicine and how to improve its teaching.
The AMA, in a statement, has already started to address the problem of western medical education in its annual conference, but it has yet to address its “missing science”.
The new study has already been criticized by academics who say the AMA should not be trying to “solve” the problem by encouraging the training of medical professionals in western medical knowledge.
In a statement published on the AMA website, Dr. Peter Wollenberg, an associate professor of medicine at the University at Buffalo, said the study had “nothing to do with medical science”.
He said that although it was possible that the AMA is “satisfied that most doctors are fully qualified” in western science, it was not “sufficiently clear” that they are.
Dr. Wollenburg said that many of the AMA’s current recommendations for western medical training, such as providing a medical school degree for every medical school graduate, should be changed to make it clear that the majority of doctors in the US do not know enough about western medicine to be qualified.
Dr Wollmann also noted that the study included only one year of training, which was too short a period to provide any realistic insight into how well western medicine education actually prepares doctors to be effective doctors in western society.
“The report only asks the question of ‘do western medicine practitioners need to know more about western science?’ and it is only part of the answer,” Dr Wissenberg wrote.
“We need to get to the root of the problem and the lack of training is only the tip of the iceberg.”
Western medicine training The AMA’s annual conference takes place in Indianapolis this year.
While the AMA has already taken steps to make western medical expertise more widely available, its conference in Indianapolis, the second largest in the United States, has yet a new conference planned.
This year, the conference will focus on the challenges of training medical professionals for the medical profession.
In an editorial published on Wednesday, the American College of Medical and Surgical Colleges, which represents US medical schools, called on the US AMA to “work with the medical community to identify a pathway to train doctors in Western science”.
“In light of the growing evidence that Western medicine does not prepare doctors to serve patients, we urge the AMA to reconsider its longstanding focus on Western science and to work with the community of physicians, hospitals and other medical providers to develop a path forward to train Western physicians in Western medicine,” the editorial said.
“Until the AMA begins to make its commitment to the profession and its future as a medical profession, it is unlikely that it will make progress in this area.”
In a similar vein, Dr Wuthenberg said the AMA “should not be pursuing a model of training that emphasizes western medicine as the only way to be successful as doctors.”
He noted that while many medical schools in the country are already using western science as part of their curriculum, most of the new medical students being taught in western schools are not “in the field of medicine”.
Dr Wohnenberg said that while the AMA would welcome more western doctors entering its ranks, it should also not promote the idea that western medicine is “the only way” to be an effective medical doctor.
“Western medicine is just as valid as any other approach to medicine,” Dr. Kelli Rehm, director of medical education at the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS), told The Next Wellinghead.
“A lot of people want to train for a certain profession, but the real way to become a good doctor is to work in the field where you have the greatest exposure to the knowledge that western science offers.”
Western education in general is not getting the attention it deserves, said Dr Rehm.
“I think it’s really important for the AMA not to just tell people they have to go to the US and learn how to do this, but also to provide opportunities for those of us who have been working in the fields that Western science is applicable to,” she said.
In addition to western medicine in general, the AMA also promotes the idea of “Western” as an inclusive term, and Dr Rehm noted that this is one of the few fields in which the AMA actually “does not exclude” any field of study.
“If you have any idea what you’re going to be doing when you’re an adult in the future, I’m sure you’re not going to get into medical school, because you can’t be a doctor, you can be a psychologist, you could be a social
